Update: There's good news and there's bad news. Good news, we now have screenshots and artwork too. Bad news, the supposed console confirmation was apparently premature.

"The engine is capable of console development, but we are focusing on the PC version at this time", writes CD Projekt PR person Ohle. "At some point we'll probably talk about console development, but that time isn't now."

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be hitting Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in addition to PC, VG247 spotted Gamikaze reporting, while developer CD Projekt RED has released the first developer diary for its gritty RPG sequel and a full in-game cinematic.

"The Witcher 2 builds on The Witcher, so its a thoroughbred RPG with none of the simplifications that come with blending genres," RED explains. "At the same time, I can say that we're emphasizing action and offering a far more modern telling of the story."

CD Projekt has said it is "aiming for release in Q1 2011," on PC at least. A revamped Xbox 360 and PS3 port of the original Witcher was once due in fall 2009 but suspended.

The second new trailer gives an extended look at the in-game cutscene shown teased in the announcement trailer.

Porting from a PC build to consoles (if that's what they are doing) is a port in the correct direction. I don't mind if console players get to play more games, I just don't like it when my PC games suffer because developers start from a console-centric frame of reference.

It's way too early to tell if it's going to be consolized or not.

I just threw that out there, but yes it is too early to tell. I just hope the game is not dumbed down to benefit the consoles. However, If I could use a 360 controller on the PC version, that would be interesting.
