Report: iPhone Game Revenue Overtakes PSP's
Culling data from the NPD Group sales figures for the DS and PSP and estimating "iPhone game sales using a combination of data made available by Apple and using ratios and calculations from an aggregated set of data [from Flurry's own analytics data]," the group puts the iPhone's game revenue at almost 400% growth in 2009 over 2008.
On the iPhone, this represents a jump from a 5% share of portable game revenue in 2008 to 19% in 2009. In the same time period, Flurry puts the PSP at dropping from a 20% share to 11%. The DS held it's massive lead, but dropped from 75% to 70%.
Though these figures rely heavily on estimation and extrapolation, it appears that Apple has a legitimate gaming platform on its hands. Throw in sales for non-gaming applications and there is money being made on iPhone OS.
Apple's iPad, which will run iPhone OS games, will be released on April 3rd.
