Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Sells Over 2.3 Million

Boasting that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is "on pace to be the top selling title for March 2010," publisher Electronic Arts today revealed that the DICE-developed shooter has sold over 2.3 million copies since hitting North America (March 2) and Europe (March 4).

The company even pointed to the game's various multiplayer issues as a sign of its success. "In the first 48 hours we had such a tremendous rush to multiplayer gameplay that our servers experienced overwhelming demand," said executive producer Karl Magnus Troedsson. "This is a testament to the massive response players have had worldwide for the extraordinary action experienced in the Battlefield sandbox."

However, those issues should now be in the past. "DICE and EA have brought more servers online," he explained. "We now have enough capacity to handle all BFBC2 connections seamlessly and we continue to monitor online play daily."

A variety of other stats on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title were also provided:

  • 81B points have been earned in online multiplayer sessions
  • 43M weapons and gadgets have been unlocked in online multiplayer
  • Over 6M video views on YouTube
  • 2.9M hours have been spent playing online in the last 24 hours alone
  • 230K peak-concurrent-users (PCUs)
  • Over 44k Twitter fans (most out of any EA title)

I was wondering that as well since I heard the pc version was doing the best out of all three versions.

But..but...Consoles are supposed to outsell PC versions. Wait. I'm horribly confused. My worldview...crumbling.......must regain sense....of...normalcy....

Chris said that there were more PC playing. I wouldn't automatically assume PC sold more.

I would since the DICE spokesperson said that it, well, sold the most on the PC. ;)

Too bad the NPD doesn't take digital distribution into account.

And too bad that the Steam sales report is in revenue per angstrom per fortnight, or whatever zany unit they're using instead of licenses sold per month.

We will know when they release the console numbers.

The never release PC sales numbers because they are so low.

I read 500,000 for PS3, 800,000 for Xbox, and 1 million for PC... I think on VGchartz.

It woulda sold more I'm sure if games like Bioshock 2 and MAG didn't just come out, a lotta PS3 gamers bought MAG for example (something like 700,000) and a fair percentage of those probably woulda got BC2 instead.

Vgchartz are listing xbox at 1.1 ps3 at 0.68, which leaves 0.52 for PC to make 2.3M. Numbers per 13.03. Vgchartz may be wrong, but they are usually close on the numbers they report.

In this case they must be screwed up since DICE themselves are saying that the PC sold the most copies.

No we didn't. We said the PC at least in the first weekend had the most concurrent users.

Wow, I had no idea you worked for DICE. Awesome ! And awesome game !

Now .. are you guys aware of problems with limited edition code unlocks? I haven't had much luck with mine. I've tried upper case with dashes, without dashes, lower case, everything. EA support hasn't come back to me in the last 5 days.
