THQ and Syfy Bringing 'de Blob' to Television

NBC Universal's Syfy (formerly known as the Sci Fi Channel) announced a new partnership with video game publisher THQ, with the goal of creating and delivering new content across "all major media platforms." The effort will focus on enhancing THQ's existing video game franchises and new co-developed intellectual properties by expanding their reach into other types of media.

The press release reveals that THQ's paint-crazy platformer 'de Blob' will be the first of the company's existing franchises to benefit from the alliance.

"We look forward to working closely with Syfy to introduce de Blob's colorful world to a new audience of young adults via webisodes, television and other media, broadening awareness for this loveable hero," explained Executive VP of THQ Kids, Family and Casual Games, Doug Clemmer.

The partnership announcement arrives as SyFy prepares to unveil a new 'Syfy Kids' brand, in which 'de Blob' is poised to serve as a "key foundation." Unnamed consumer goods tie-ins will join the aforementioned webisodes and television for the multi-chromatic hero, and (as reported) THQ also plans to publish new multi-platform 'de Blob' games during the fiscal year that ends on March 31, 2011.
