BioShock 2 Multiplayer Matchmaking Detailed
There is always a finite amount of time for the development of a game. Bringing Multiplayer to BioShock was a daunting task between the tech (there was no multiplayer support in the codebase from the first game) and the expectations of the community. Either you try to do everything and so nothing feels finished or you focus your efforts to do a smaller number of things really well like an accessible online experience. We chose to spend the time we had creating a solid game foundation and unfortunately that did not include LAN play or dedicated servers.
Players on all platforms must rely on matchmaking to find games, though there is an option to form private unranked games with friends. 2K says there will be no support for 'kicking' players as "we felt like it often leads to more unfair kicking than fair kicking."
BioShock 2's multiplayer is handled by external developer and Unreal Tournament series contributor Digital Extremes, with modes including 'Capture the Sister.'
BioShock 2 arrives for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 9. 2K recently announced it is "scaling back" the PC version's DRM due to fans' negative reactions.

Someone please start spam e-mailing 2kgames youtube videos of MW2 hackers.

It has nothing to do with hacking, it has to do with their utter incompetence with netcoding and just general game design.
Which is stupid, seeing as they have the UNREAL TOURNAMENT PEOPLE WORKING ON IT.

You know, I really wouldn't have minded this much, but the problem is the single-player for the first game was pretty terribad, not to mention it wasn't scary at all. And not the multiplayer will also suck and hence not compensate for the singleplayer horrors.
I miss System Shock 2.

Screw this, I'm going to play Planescape and drown in my sorrows or something.-

Maybe I'm just spoiled then, but I found it a chore to play through and once I saw petals start falling... I laughed and decided it wasn't for me.
Apparently there's also some picture taking stuff for the Pokemon Safari fans out there afterwards. I'd much rather be gathering organs from dead things and researching them with chemicals.
SS2 wasn't a masterpiece or anything, but it most certainly ruined me when it came to Bioshock.

You're not alone. Having thoroughly enjoyed SS2, playing Bioshock just felt like a watered down experience (pun intended). If it had some sort of class system between those bio abilities, firearms and tech, etc. I think that would've gone a long way to improve it. As it was, the 'magic' abilities just turned out to be other types of shotgun.
Also the linear level design, to me, just made it feel like another shooter.-
I'm glad I'm seemingly not the only person who feels this way.
Yeah, one of the things that irked me is that you can be everything at once, unlike in SS2 where you would have to be a jack of all trades and a master of none or specialise in one of the 3 areas.
I am reminded of one of the early Bioshock videos where Levine was talking about making a choice as to whether remain human or become a monster. The only choice we ended up getting was harvest/save. But a lot of the plasmids seemed to replicate some of the guns/ammo or vice versa. It would certainly be possible to not use plasmids and remain fairly human throughout. Grenade launcher instead of telekinesis, electric shotgun ammo instead of the electricity plasmid etc.
It's a bit of a shame that there wasn't so much depth of choice in that area.
Also yes, level design.

Um, then you don't like it so why would we care about your opinion? If you found the first games single player bad, well, THATS THE WHOLE FUCKING GAME, isn't it? Please, go elsewhere.
You know what I do when there is a shack article on a game that I either dont like or I'm not interested in? I skip it. FFS, you aren't commenting, you are just trashing a game you didn't care for.
I really don't understand, if you don't like the game, why are you HERE? Do you just read about things you don't like? No wonder you "/rage", get a fucking livejournal and leave people be to not be retarded and talk about things we actually like.
