No More Burnout Paradise DLC

21
As Burnout Paradise's second birthday approaches, developer Criterion has put a damper on the impending celebration with word that there won't be any more downloadable add-ons for the open-world racing game.

"Please stop asking us for Burnout Paradise DLC," declares the company's Twitter. "There will be no more! Sorry everyone! But we did WAY more than everyone else..."

Initially released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in January 2008 and then PC in February 2009, the racer was supported with a variety of free and priced adds-ons, including motorcycles, new modes, and a replica of Back to the Future's DeLorean. The updates culminated in June 2009 with Big Surf Island, the only add-on to to bring new land, though neither Big Surf Island nor the Cops and Robbers DLC were released on PC.

But while Criterion has moved on--it's working on a Need for Speed entry, described as "revolutionary" and due by March 2011--it has also begun to detail the discarded ideas it had for Burnout Paradise add-ons, including playable planes and boats, time travel, and a rocket that would have taken players to (and let them race on) the moon.

That sucks. Did they give a reason for why no Big Surf or Cops & Robbers on the PC?

I bought the game on steam thinking I could play that stuff finally :(

Looks like EA decided to gut and fuck them, like they do with every promising and creative developer they acquire.

Here comes yet another crappy handling and poorly designed Need For Speed game.

Basically, there was no distribution method enabled for the PC version. They'd have had to create their own, otherwise anyone could hack the content in for free.

Well they were all about free DLC from the beginning. They could have included it as an update for "THE ULTIMATE BOX" which apparently turned out to be not so ultimate.

Maybe after a year or two they'll throw us a bone and put it out there because they paid for DLC on the console is no longer selling. Not likely though.

They had the Burnout Store - and they had PC DLC for sale there - such as the Legendary Cars Packs. They simply decided against it - which fucking retarded to do everything BUT the last 2 DLC releases.

as opposed to all that other DLC that can't just be hacked in...

Of course it can be hacked in. But not just by changing a config file or installing a mod, which would've been the situation here.

thanks for the info, I was curious as to why it wasn't released.

I really wish they would release it though, I would certainly pay for it.

Me too. It still kinda pisses me off, as I own the PC ver and the 360 ver, wouldn't have bought the PC ver if I'd known they were going to leave it crippled.

My guess is that DLC on the PC didn't pan out to be financially rewarding, especially since I'm sure it can all be cracked and hacked (like the pirated copies of MW2 playing on IW.net). But console DLC is very financially rewarding.
