Activision CEO Talks DJ Hero 2: 'We'll Stick with It and Get It Right'

Admitting that "if you're going to make a commitment to doing something original, the odds are that you're not going to get it right on the first chance," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has vowed that the publishing giant is "sticking with" the DJ Hero series.

"I think DJ Hero is a really innovative product," he told Game Informer of the $100-plus peripheral-packing music game, which hit in October 2009 to critical praise but modest sales. "I can't wait for you to see next year's. We'll stick with it and get it right."

As the interview appears in the Game Informer issue that's just now hitting subscribers (meaning the interview was presumably done in 2009) and Kotick is big on annual iterations, it's likely he was referring to a 2010-due sequel as "next year's."

Kotick added that the company's new strategy is "going to be less games, better games," marking an abrupt shift from the previous more is better stance that is perhaps best evidenced by its former plan to triple Guitar Hero offerings between 2008 and 2010.

The humility is good - maybe they will switch developers this time.

Hah, humility. This is a week after he was personally gloating over a game bringing in $1 billion of revenue. ("Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and shattered theatrical box office and video game records." http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/61915 )

Just wait for the next conference call or press event; Kotick will be back in full gloat mode. The next announcement on the Call of Duty MMO or the umpteenth World of Warcraft expansion pack should be a good opportunity.
