After the exhausting effort that went into developing Mass Effect 2 it would be reasonable to expect the team was ready for a break. Not BioWare, or at least not Project Director Casey Hudson. Speaking to the press before showing off the game at a recent event in Edmonton Hudson said, "We're looking forward to it [Mass Effect 3] and it should be more fun for us."

This comment came after Hudson went into some detail about the challenges faced during development with perfecting the system for carrying over saves from the first game. Managing all the potential player choices and their outcomes took such a commitment to making it work that he said, "I'd be really surprised if anyone else tried to do it."

"Mass Effect 3," Hudson said, "will be easier because we don't have to worry about continuity into the next one." While no one ever expected the Mass Effect world to go away after the Shepard trilogy, it sounds like they're pretty dead set to wrap the current story arc up in the third game.

Mass Effect 2 hits PC and Xbox 360 on January 26, 2010. Specific platforms and a release date for Mass Effect 3 have yet to be announced, though the franchise's save data carry-over suggests PC and Xbox 360.

I really wish they would have headlined the idea that the saves for ME would be used in ME2 more in-game or even at the end of the ME. I didn't find out about this save game shenanigans until probaby 6 months after I deleted my saves.

I'm pretty sure that was a fairly prominent feature when they were originally pimping ME.

I didn't follow the news clippings, so they should have added something at the end of the game to notify me of the future utilization of the save-game.

That means you get to play through it again! Sounds like you're the lucky one in this scenario.

I am not one of those gamers that can replay something I put 40 hrs into :(

If you spent 40 hours on the first playthrough, then you need to turn the difficulty setting way down.

Well, it was probably 38 hours of driving the Mako up a cliff, which doesn't get any easier >:(

Why, it took me around 40-50 hours as well. I like to take my time with games and try to complete every single side-quest there is. It's not about the difficulty settings and I completely understand mnsnota, however, even though I too don't replay games until a couple of years after the first time, I did so with ME. It's just that great I guess.

Same, I played for 55 hours, but I never skipped any dialog and I did every quest, plot and subplot.
