Ace Combat Flies to iPhone, iPod touch

Namco's airborne shooter series Ace Combat hit the iPhone and iPod touch with the iTunes App Store release of Ace Combat Xi.

Sporting an "opening celebration" price of $4.99 across the next five days, the 127MB download was handled by series veteran Project ACES. Subtitled "Skies of Incursion," it's meant to serve as a sequel to 2006's Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception (PSP).

As for handling, Ace Combat Xi relies on the device's accelerometer for tilt-based movement and the touch screen for weapon controls, with Namco having vowed to release more planes and missions as downloadable content in the future.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Does it come with a complete pacifist whining wingman who rhetorically muses about war's cost to mankind while firing thirty $350k missiles a mission at ground targets for me?

Well said. AC0 somehow had a plot not like that though.

I finally found that to buy but I haven't played it yet. I heard it was still a little better than 5 though?

          5 was maybe a 7/10 for me... if we consider 4 a 10/10

No, he mentions, periodically, about how mankind is a terrible beast and that it brings death down upon itself time and again, but out of all the destruction beauty is born. He then turns on you and tries to kill you at the end.

That was the single most brilliant thing I've heard all week. Thank you for that.
