Ubisoft Launches 'Uplay' Achievement and Reward System with Assassin's Creed 2
The first game to take advantage of Uplay is Ubisoft Montreal's Assassin's Creed II, which just launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America today and arrives in European territories and shops come Friday.
Based on in-game actions, players earn "Uplay Win Units" that can be exchanged for "rewards such as exclusive in-game content or digital items." Assassin's Creed II rewards include the in-game Auditore Family Crypt and an Altair costume.
Points can be accumulated and saved across multiple games and platforms, with Ubisoft promising that the service will be supported by Splinter Cell: Conviction and Assassin's Creed II PC plus "many more" upcoming PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 titles.
Billed as an "online destination" and "a connected gaming universe," the current iteration of the service is considered beta, with Assassin's Creed II only able to provide Uplay Win access in-game and additional services-- Uplay Help, Uplay Shop and Uplay Share social networking functionality--currently only available through Uplay.com.
