Infinity Ward: Activision Wanted More World War II, 'Did Not Want Modern Warfare'

104
While the decision to branch off from World War II PC shooters and create the Modern Warfare franchise seems a no-brainer in hindsight, developer Infinity Ward now says that its owner Activision was against the idea from the start, deeming the idea "risky" and requesting more games set in the 1940s. "With Call of Duty 2, we were dead set against it being World War 2," said Infinity Ward chief Vince Zampella to Official PlayStation Magazine, according to CVG.

"But Activision really wanted it, the compromise sort of being that we'd get some dev kits for consoles in exchange for doing a World War 2 game," he said. "We always wanted to be on consoles and Activision saw us as more of a PC developer."

"And something I'll add to that, Activision also did not want Modern Warfare. They thought working on a modern game was risky and [thought], 'oh my god you can't do that, it's crazy!' They were doing market research to show us we were wrong the whole time."

"We had to fight for everything," added Infinity Ward's Jason West. "They wanted it to be World War 2. Again."

Do you honestly believe this model is gonna bring eternal renewable profits? Really?
Activision is working the industry like a Gold Mine, like its a fad, a profitable mistake; Something that will run out eventually, so screw everything else, just get the cash.

I personally think that Activision is making the same mistakes that all the other publishers used to make, playing it way to safe, releasing games over and over yearly with little change and such. And all the other publishers have become behind Activision because they came along with a bunch of new ip and such and it caught on. Now the other publisher are starting to make a lot more ip stuff to have long lasting stuff, while Activision is slowly drying up there resources
