Developer Realtime Worlds and publishing partner EA have issued a new trailer for All Points Bulletin, which is, in essence, a massively multiplayer Grand Theft Auto.

Audio Bullys' "Gimme That Punk" is featured in this montage of car chases, urban shootouts, and yes, breakdancing. Crafted by Grand Theft Auto co-creator Dave Jones and the Crackdown veterans at Realtime, APB launches on PC in spring 2010.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

What, exactly, is the gameplay objective in a game like this aside from "kill enemies"?

You and your crew accept missions that then (dynamically) pit you against another crew. For example, you accept a job to rob an armored truck, and another crew receives a notice to go and protect the convoy.

That's kind of neat actually - so in a city of 100 you may have 10 different missions or so going on at a given time - as long as the city isn't too big encounters with others groups doing different missions could be all kinds of awesome.

I'm afraid that the city will feel a little dead though, but we'll see.

That is the sort of thing that could be tuned pretty easily. Not enough stuff going on, just funnel the new connections into the less active zones. Or raise the amount of people in a zone. Stuff like that. It looks like they've got the general mechanics figured out, now they just need to spend every waking hour polishing it up.

I like the video. It looks like pure fun. Bonus points for not showing the developers yapping about their own awesomeness.

I'm curious as to how the character creation works. Do you make a character that's linked to your account, and then jump into whatever city has room for you? This seems the most obvious/rational choice. Or do you make a character and end up having it tied to one city? And what about grouping/friends, switching zones. It can be tricky if you have a few friends in different instances and have to coordinate which one to switch to.

        That sounds cool.

I think there are also territory gaining goals. I believe they have a thing where you can make custom decals to cover your gang's territory.

Even if it was just "kill enemies" I would still play the shit out of it. That was pretty much what crackdown was and I still play that game.
