Battlefield 1943 Breaks Records with 600,000 Sales

EA DICE today announced that its downloadable multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943 broke records by selling 600,000 copies since its July 8 launch.

1943 became the fastest-selling Xbox Live game on its opening day, and broke the record for first-week sales as well. It also set similar records for the PlayStation Network in North America. The brisk sales meant that the community's unlocking of the Coral Sea map, a goal set at 43,000,000 total recorded kills for each platform, came ridiculously fast on Xbox Live, having been accomplished after just six days on Xbox Live.

"We are honored by the reception that the game has received so far," said EA producer Gordon Van Dyke. "Watching and participating in this non-stop multiplayer action has been a real treat for us and we can't believe how fast our fans reached 43 million kills."

I doubt there will be any additional pay for content until the PC version has been out for a while too.

yah this is why there wont be any dlc in the near future but there definitely will be. Probably themed where all maps share the same art assets like the first set.

I seriously doubt it. I think EA/Dice were caught off guard by the demand for this game, and they probably don't even have anyone started working on more maps.

      They'd be stupid not to.

And for a game that only cost $15, paying for additional maps seems far less harsh. As long as they don't start ripping us off :P

If I were a betting man, I'd say we're only getting new pacific maps (maybe a revised Invasion of the Philippines). There are clear design and production reasons for what we got - there's no way we're getting Euro maps any time soon.
