Eyeball pullin' and gut-loosin' swipes are just a few of the bloody highlights you'll find in the below G4 video, which serves up 13 minutes of direct-feed footage from the E3 demo of SCE Santa Monica's anticipated deity-slaying action game God of War III (PS3).

God of War III is slated to arrive in March 2010, with the footage just below:

Still a lot of the sequential button pushin after weakening a mob. Not sure if I'm a fan of that although the results seem quite gruesome. Looks great, just wish there was something more.

I played the original god of war and it was awesome for its time. The boss fights are what really made it but these days, yeah, I am not that into single player beat em up games. It really does boil down to DDR for your fingers.

I usually don't defend quick time events, but here it goes.

Sometimes a controller or (kb&m for that matter) can't do everything you want. I don't think there would be any way other then pre scripted animations connected with simple button mashing to control some of the complexities of the finishing moves in games with qte's.

Yes I think it takes away from games somewhat, and it seems like every platforming action game of late has had them... it's even slithered its way into fps games. But, until we have a more intuitive control system, I don't think they'll be able to express the action any other way.

Yeah, I hear ya and I agree that there really isn't an intuitive way to handle such actions/events. When I play GoW, I can't help but compare some of the action gameplay to the DMC series and imo if we wanted to boil down to the advanced combos and what not, DMC series really takes the cake (especially with Nero in DMC4).

I agree. The root problem is a user interface problem. We need something like Natal or a body suit or just the Star Trek holodeck.

Good luck with mimicking Kratos' body motions with your own.

I think the quick time finishers fit alright in God of War.

Aside from being the only feasible way to input advanced animations, I never found them annoying because, you control when (and if) the QTE's happen unlike in most other games. The vast majority are optional, you can just pound things until they die without doing the finisher. Usually just the boss kills are mandatory,

Button mashing isn't really my thing but, that centaur finisher was gruesome. Entrails spilling out like spaghetti. Nice touch.
