Plants vs. Zombies Is PopCap's Fastest-selling Game
PopCap's action-packed tower defense title Plants vs. Zombies has taken the lead as the company's fastest-selling title. "At this very early...
"At this very early point in its history, it's the best-selling game PopCap's ever had," said Popcap's Garth Chouteau to Gamasutra. Plants vs. Zombies combines the simple, addictive nature of PopCap titles with the strategy of tower defense and the reliable attraction of zombies, making for a broadly appealing title.
"At this juncture, we don't worry much about 'casual vs. hardcore'--we try to make games that will appeal to both audiences more or less equally," said Chouteau. "In this short attention span century of ours, this can be tricky since people tend to judge things quickly."
Added Chouteau: "Thankfully, Plants vs. Zombies is engaging enough that people end up spending a ton of time in the game before they really realize that an afternoon has just evaporated."

That's impressive it beat Bejeweled.
My grandma bought Bejeweled.-
Note that they're talking about the velocity at which it has sold at this point in it's release cycle. It has sold more copies, more quickly, than any other game they've ever released. Overall sales wise, though, it hasn't outsold Bejeweled. Bejeweled had a slower uptake, both due to the newness of PopCap and digital distribution and also because places like MSN Games had the Flash version for free.
I think it's more impressive that it has apparently sold this many copies quicker than Peggle Nights. My guess would be that in addition to selling to the usual casual gamer, it appeals to the hardcore gamer due to it being a tower defense game and having cartoon zombies. Doesn't hurt that it came out in close proximity to L4D.
