Verbinski Drops Pirates in Favor of BioShock Film
Pirates of the Caribbean series director Gore Verbinski has decided not to helm the fourth franchise sequel, leaving his schedule open to take on...
"I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team," said Verbinski in a statement. "I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."
According to a trade article carried by Latino Review, Universal Pictures' BioShock movie is on target to begin production in 2010.
John Logan (The Aviator, Star Trek: Nemesis) is set to pen the screenplay for BioShock, while Verbinski will likely direct. BioShock creator Ken Levine is apparently being "regularly consulted" during pre-production.

i'm sorry, but this makes no sense. if anything the 3rd movie was better than the first 2.
i'm noticing a trend here. people always gravitate towards the first movie (ie. Matrix) because they come up with a perception of the world they think is being created. then they have the inability to appreciate the sequels because it doesn't live up to their "imagination".-
Why does it make no sense? Sequels by there very nature tend to be crap as the studio's are just trying to cash in on the success of the first. There's probably only a very small handful where the sequels are better than the first, and Pirates (and the Matrix) certainly isn't in that category. You're certainly free to feel otherwise but I'd be curious to see why you think World's End is better.

Well, I'd say in many cases that's probably true. Inflated expectations and hype tend to disappoint.
However, I'm going to agree with most of the others here. What was it about Pirates 3 that you found better than the first 2?
I think it was analogous to Spiderman 3, where they tried to do too many things at once. With Davy Jones heart, Calypso, Bootstrap Bill, Commodore whatever... they had too much drama and too many side-plots that weren't entirely necessary or well done. -
