Nintendo, Call of Duty Dominate December Console Sales in US
As expected, the Nintendo DS and Wii led the hardware charts, with Wii Play and Call of Duty: World at War among the month's best-selling console games.
December hardware sales were up a small margin of 2% over 2007 on $1.88 billion in sales, while software sales increased 15% to $2.75 billion.
The U.S. console sales for December:
- DS - 3.04 million
- Wii - 2.15 million
- Xbox 360 - 1.44 million
- PSP - 1.02 million
- PlayStation 3 - 726,000
- PlayStation 2 - 410,000
According to NPD, the top-selling console titles in December 2008 were:
- Wii Play w/ Remote (Wii) - 1.46 million units
- Call of Duty: World at War (X360) - 1.33 million units
- Wii Fit w/ Balance Board (Wii) - 999,000 units
- Mario Kart Wii (Wii) - 979,000 units
- Guitar Hero: World Tour (X360) - 850,000 units
- Gears of War 2 (X360) - 745,000 units
- Left 4 Dead (X360) - 629,000 units
- Mario Kart (DS) - 540,000 units
- Call of Duty: World at War (PS3) - 533,000 units
- Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii) - 497,000 units
