Electronic Arts will distribute Red Eagle Games' upcoming line of games inspired by Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time book series, the duo have announced.

Red Eagle is planning to transform the fantasy franchise into "a line of stand-alone games" for "all major videogame platforms," including PC and consoles, along with a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for unknown platforms.

All will be distributed through the EA Partners Label, which enables EA to pair with other third-party developers for publishing and distribution, including Valve, Harmonix, and id.

"The Wheel of Time series has a massive worldwide following and we're excited to help give Red Eagle Games' interactive products a blockbuster launch on the global stage," said EA Partners senior VP and general manager David DeMartini.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Love these books. It will be interesting to see how the games turn out.

The books are great (if maybe a bit exhausting I'm almost done with #4) I just hope they don't get butchered for a game.

I'm curious as to how they're going to handle this. What type of game is it going to be? I'm imagining either an RPG or an action-adventure game. Are they going to do one game for each of the 12 books? Either way, I can't help but be a little jaded about this. Even if they turn out to be good games, I doubt they'll match up with the way I imagined things reading the books.
