Rumor: Nintendo DSi Launching in North America on April 4 for $179.99

Multiple sources "close to Nintendo" have reportedly told IGN that the Nintendo DSi will launch in North America sometime in early April--with April 4 indicated as the most likely date.

According to the sources, the DSi will carry a suggested retail price of $179.99.

The Nintendo DSi will improve over Nintendo's original handheld with the addition of two cameras, internal memory, an SD card slot for memory expansion, and support for the new DSi Shop, which offers downloadable games and demos.

Over 500,000 DSi units were sold in the month following the system's November 1 Japanese release.

The store might be, if it has as much content as the Wii's virtual console.

I'll be interesting to see if the DS Store will offer some of the better GBA titles since they're removing that slot, but keeping the extra memory (that is required to play gba games) to support a type of built in web browser.

For example, Nintendo releasing an english version of Mother 3 / Earthbound 2 (GBA game only released in japan) for downloadable DSi would be huge.

The main killer is significantly reduced battey life. For a camera and shit? I couldn't care less personally.
