EA Releases The Sims 3 System Requirements
With The Sims 3 (PC) shipping on February 20, Electronic Arts has released the minimum requirements well in advance, giving fans a chance to bulk up their computers in anticipation of the expanded people simulator.
The full Sims 3 minimum requirements follow:
PC/Desktop, XP Service Pack 2:
- Processor: Pentium IV 2.0 GHz / Athlon XP 2000+
- Memory: 1 GB
- GeForce FX 5900 / Radeon 9500
- Graphics RAM: 128 MB
- Processor: Pentium IV 2.0 GHz / Athlon XP 2000+
- Memory: 1.5 GB
- GeForce Go 6200 / Radeon mobile 9600
- Graphics RAM: 128 MB

Despite the fact that those requirements are almost never right, the minimum requirements are even more useless, because they are NEVER right. You won't be able to play this game any good with these configs, I'm sure.

Then again, rendering detail (basically AF and a few other very minor things) and textures aren't of much (if any) difference if you have enough vRAM.
Or you just have a magic rig, since every computer I've seen it running on has only managed about 30-35fps, with everything turned right down to the bottom - and those rigs are all high-end and well maintained.
Anyway, Johnnsen's right of course. System requirements, both minimum and recommended, are generally overoptimistic. They want the game to sell after all.
