Taito's downloadable shooter Space Invaders Get Even will hit the North America Wii Shop Channel on December 1, publisher Square Enix announced today.

Set 30 years after the first Space Invaders, Get Even puts players on the side of the aliens they invade Earth and attempt to bring about the destruction of humanity.

While unconfirmed by Square Enix, the game is likely to sell for 500 Wii Points ($5), as its previous European and Japanese releases have carried that price. The company noted that three add-on packs will be released at 500 Wii Points ($5) each.

In line with the previous releases, the core version of Space Invaders Get Even is expected to sport one stage, with each add-on pack containing two additional levels.

1 Frikkin Stage? What kind of game is that? One I was about to complain about due to it's not being mentioned for PSN or XBLA, but if it's gonna be that kinda cash grab, forget it.

not much of a cash grab, considering it's only 5 freakin dollars.

One stage puts it at demo-level content. I'm not sure I want to support this trend, even though I love me some Space Invaders.

5 dollars for the first 5 minutes of gameplay and then 5 dollars more for each new bit of the game. You could call it episodic content but Space Invaders doesn't really lend itself to that form of distribution if you ask me. It's more like a very expensive arcade machine that you constantly need to feed 5 dollar bills to keep playing.

It's stupid to only have one stage to start, but if you buy it all, it's 7 stages for $20, which is right in line with those arcade-y releases. 2-3 stages to start, then 2 per pack would be reasonable, I think.
