New Xbox Experience Hits Launch Day Snags (Updated: Netflix Issues Resolved)

19
With Xbox 360 owners around the world rushing to utilize the new features and interface of the New Xbox Experience, a few launch day issues have cropped up.

Access to the Xbox Live Marketplace, from either the console or the newly-launched web store, is currently sporadic, preventing access to downloads like add-on game content, demos, Xbox Live Arcade games and the new Community Games.

We have also received multiple reports that users are having issues tying their Netflix accounts to the console for streaming movie access, specifying that the Netflix Activate Page is currently rejecting any of the Xbox 360-supplied activation codes.

However, not everyone is having Netflix woes. As of 12:55 PM CST, Shacknews' Steve Gibson was able to activate Netflix "without a problem."

Shacknews has contacted Microsoft for more information, and will update accordingly.

Update: The Netflix issues have been resolved, according to a Microsoft-sanctioned blog post from Xbox Live programming director Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Yes. I woke up early this morning before work to check out the update and see how the Netflix feature worked. Almost everything worked fine for me.. but at about 6:00am EST I tried to get Netflix working and it gives you and activation code and asks you to browse to the page on your PC and enter the code. The code wasn't accepted so I went back to the console and tried again... I did that about 10 times but it never worked. At about 6:30 I got a message on the PC saying the device activation service was down and to try back in two hours.

It sucks because that was really the main feature I was looking forward to... but I imagine it will get better after a couple days when things normalize a bit.

The frustrating part was that two of my friends on my lists were shown as "Streaming a movie from Netflix". So some people got in before that I guess.

I tried it around 7:30 EST this morning. Took 3 tries to d/l the netflix frontend, but the activation worked fine on the first shot.

Watching some streaming video now. Works great!

I got the update a little before 9am EST, and when I first checked the Netflix thing I got an Xbox LIVE error message, but 10-15 minutes later it worked, and so did my activation. Don't know if I just got lucky or not but I guess it's not completely broken.
