Epic Acquires Unreal Engine 3 MMO Developer
Original: Unreal Engine 3 technology creator and Gears of War series developer Epic Games today added Fat Princess (PS3) developer Darkstar Industries to its stable of internal teams, renaming the newly-acquired company Titan Studios. The studio will continue its work on Fat Princess, as well as create original games and provide technical Unreal Engine 3 support to those that work with Epic Games China.
Titan's multiple UE3-powered projects include a massively multiplayer online game, of which no details were revealed. The studio's staff hails from a variety of developers, such as Ubisoft, Epic Games, Blizzard Entertainment and Lionhead Studios.
Titan was founded by Epic Games China, which controls UE3 licensing in Asia, and provides technology support to developers worldwide. Today's announcement suggests that Titan is a significantly larger studio than Darkstar was, with Epic noting that only "the core of the team" was known as Darkstar.
It's the latest investment for Epic, which has recently bought a majority stake in Gears of War PC developer People Can Fly and outright purchased Undertow developer Chair Entertainment.
"We are recruiting highly talented and hard working developers, and giving them the resources they need to be successful," said Epic Games China CEO Paul Meegan.
"We believe in creating small, cohesive teams that leverage Unreal Engine 3, our production talent in Asia, as well as our Asian and Western design sensibilities and market awareness."

I hope the game doesn't suffer because of this, because I'm seriously considering buying this. It looks fun.
