World of Warcraft Under Attack in Lich King Pre-release Event
The orc capital of Orgrimmar is currently under attack by the Lich King's Scourge forces in an event that repeats every 20-30 minutes. After the forces are beaten back, Thrall and Garrosh Hellscream have a disagreement over whether to invade the Lich King's home of Northrend. Thrall urges prudence, while Garrosh advises an immediate assault. The argument grows heated, and the two eventually do battle, Garrosh nearly winning before The Herald of the Lich King announces another attack.
Reports also show that Stormwind Harbor is under attack, with King Varian Wrynn and others putting up a defense.

they experimented with one event for the opening of Ahn Quiraj which crashed most of the servers, then learning from that they had a bunch of zombies spawn in different areas for the opening of Naxxramus but it wasn't really much of an event compared to the Ahn Quiraj opening which actually had a succession of events-
They had a BC event, but not at capital cities.
About 2 nights before Burning Crusade was released, the Burning Legion invaded Azeroth via the Dark Portal. The Argent Dawn had people kill demons for...I forget really, I do remember a tabard. The event was nothing quite like this.
If like the BC one, this event will stop the moment Lich King is "available".
