Grand Theft Auto 4 Producer Unsure About DLC This Year

Grand Theft Auto 4 producer Dan Houser revealed that the open-world hijacking sim's upcoming DLC release could slip out of its fall 2008 release window.

"I'm not sure. It's going well. But we don't know a date," remarked Houser to Variety when asked about the release date. "We're still figuring out a few things. We're more focused on quality than dates, always have been," he added.

The first of two 360-exclusive downloadable expansion packs for Grand Theft Auto 4 has been expected this fall, according to persistent statements and rumors. Officially, the DLC is expected by publisher Take-Two in its fiscal Q1 2009, putting it between November 1 and January 31, 2009.

"We hope to be announcing [a date] in the next few weeks," said Houser.

IIRC it's $50M "guaranteed" revenue (forget the term). So if they only make $5M in revenue, MS pays $45M. If R* makes >=$50M, then MS doesn't pay a dime. Basically it allows R* to take the risk of making the DLC and still make money.

Maybe you're right, maybe not. I can't follow.

The 50$ million is pre paid royalty. So in order for Rockstar to get even more than the 50$ million, the total revenue has to be around 70$ million ( I assume around 70% royalty to rockstar ). Rockstar will get minimum 50$ million even if sales falls short.
