The PlayStation 3-exclusive downloadable content for the narrative-driven shooter BioShock will arrive on November 20 for $9.99, publisher 2K has announced.

That $9.99 download will contain three challenge rooms, said to feature new trophies along with "new locations, objectives and artwork not seen anywhere else in the game."

  • A Shocking Turn of Events - A Little Sister is trapped atop a Ferris wheel in an undisclosed location in Rapture. Using only the tools and environment around them, players must use their wits to create electricity to power the Ferris wheel and bring the Little Sister to safety.

  • The I in Team - Using limited resources, and an even more limited arsenal, players must negotiate traps and find a way to defeat a Big Daddy using their wits instead of raw firepower.

  • Worlds of Hurt - Step up and take on the most grueling challenge offered in the world of Rapture. Players must battle through eight rooms of Big Daddies, Splicers and the worst that Rapture has to offer. Accumulate Adam, build an arsenal of Plasmids, Tonics and Weaponry, and fight through to rescue the Little Sister.

Released this September--over a year after the PC and 360 versions--the PS3 edition of BioShock was handled by original developers 2K Boston and 2K Australia, BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams developer 2K Marin, and external studio Digital Extremes.

I am sure this will eventually hit the 360. But better yet, the time it is exclusive to the PS3 will let us 360 owners know if it is even worth the price.

I doubt it. This sounds like something to appease the PS3 owners since they will say "why was this so late?" - Bioshock 2 is around the corner (kind of) - so this just doesn't sound like it needs to be pushed to the 360 and PC anytime soon.

If it were appeasement, it would be free.

This. It sounds like this content is kinda slapped together and not plot-centric either.

the team didn't want the rooms to be plot-centric. here's the thought process behind the add-on content:

"Well, remember that BioShock’s storyline was a pretty carefully crafted and coherent piece of work. Honestly, I didn’t think we should mess around with it or try to shoehorn new characters or twists into the story, but we wanted the Challenge Rooms to look and feel and play like a BioShock product. So what we did was, we postulated that Sander Cohen, a character most BioShock players will probably remember fondly, had written a series of comic books about Little Sisters and danger and that the player would be playing out the fiendish setups of the comic stories. They’re kind of a fiction inside the fiction. They’re set in places that look like Rapture, but they’re new locations that we built for the downloadable content, and playing the game feels like playing a BioShock game, still, but it’s outside the narrative of the original game."

"When we first got the project, to make downloadable content for BioShock, we brainstormed several dozen ideas. We had a wide range of stuff, but we had a certain set of criteria that most of those ideas didn’t meet. For one thing, we didn’t want the downloadable content to be something where you had to replay the entire game just to see small amounts of it. You know, adding new weapons or plasmids would’ve been fairly straightforward, but it’s not really right for a story-driven single player game like BioShock is. We wanted something that would offer new content right out of the box, so to speak. Something they could select from the main menu and just dive right into. We also wanted something that made good use of the BioShock toolset, which we spent a lot of time developing. We wanted something that made use of that in new and interesting ways, and encouraged player experimentation."

It probably would have been if Sony and MS would let that happen.

The DLC for the 360 will be 5 dollars to open the door that got locked forever when you took the logical fucking step of beating the stuffed shittles out of Sander Cohen, thus allowing you to actually get the last shithuffing weapon upgrade booth that was stuffed in that door for no good god damn reason.
