Gfx look terrible. You can see classic HL2 fire effects in that first shot. Yikes!

No, they'll continue improving it just like they have with every other game they've released in the last 4 years.
Just for once can we have a Left 4 Dead thread without the usual "source is so old" bullshit? The graphics are as good as any other game released this year, Crysis Warhead being the sole exception

Bullshit. I play Counter-Strike because it's incredibly balanced, relies more on my skill (and less on a flaming awesome rig, because the flaming awesome rig of 2004 is now standard fare in 2008), and I can play with my friends over Steam without problems, the modding, skinning, and mapping community helps refresh the gameplay, and...
SINCE WHEN DID DUST2 GET OLD?

For you to say that the gfx are terrible you want to do the following:
a) Open your eyes
b) Open your eyes wider
c) Take a look at the facial animations in-game that take place and see if any other game matches those as well as this game or any other Valve game
and
d) Buy a good graphics card to take advantage of the advanced shadowing that takes place in Left 4 Dead
Valve games are bar-none the best on the market.
No one has better game play when it comes to these games or stories or animation or... need I keep going?
NOTE: I am biased as I do work for team V-
Valve is my favorite company but I;ve been disappointed lately with their gfx and especialy TF2. I;m sure I will buy this, as I do all Valve products ever since HL1. But they need to start changing things up - the gameplay modes in TF2 are awful (static control points? zzzzzzz) and while HL1 and HL2 are masterpieces, the half life series is really starting to show it's age with EP1 and EP2 with the on-a-rails gameplay. Hopefully they are looking at a Crysis 2 type of open, non-linear environment for the third episode of HL2.
