Rumor: Sony Considers Monthly Subscription for MAG

8
According to blog TheBitbag, a new PlayStation Underground survey indicates that Sony is exploring the possibility of charging a monthly subscription for the upcoming PlayStation 3 massively multiplayer title MAG: Massive Action Game.

Announced at E3, MAG: Massive Action Game promises 256-player combat within a persistent world. The game is being developed by SOCOM veteran Zipper Interactive.

The survey, reportedly titled "Short Survey. Big New Game," asked "at least 15 questions related to payment plans for the game."

Sony has refused to comment on Bigbag's unverified report.

They aren't exploring the possibility like they made this game and then thought - "gee lets charge a monthly fee for this"

The MAG project was an action MMO from the beginning.

"MMO" suggests a persistent game world, not a jump-in jump-out FPS. I would never pay a monthly fee for a standard multiplayer FPS, regardless of how many players you could fit into a server.

It always sounded vaguely like Planetside 1.5 to me.

That statement is more accurate than a game you jump into and jump out.

What elements have to be persistent for you to qualify? Stats? Achievements? The state of the game world? Or seamlessly connected areas?

What if it only has one of those elements?

It would have to be at least one of the last two you mentioned to be deemed worthy of MMO title, and really all 4.

Not going to happen. If so, they can go fuck themselves.

The whole project is still pretty vague at this point.
