Warhammer Online Goes Gold
The MMO has recently become the latest subject in the industry-wide crediting controversy, as past Mythic staff members will not be recognized for their contributions.
In advance of the game's retail release, pre-order customers will gain access to an open beta beginning September 7. Until then, check out the latest CG trailer

Gold?
It's so not ready.-

you're welcome.
But unfortunately it is the truth. It's becoming more and more prevalent, especially in the MMO industry. The "we'll fix it later" mindset is a pox upon gaming. If you go to market with product that's not ready, you'll piss of the early adopters, and they'll go somewhere else.
I wish it weren't so. -

I ask this same question of every poster who lays down a one-liner about how WAR's not ready:
What's missing? What needs to be improved? What isn't ready for release?
Answer those, and then tell me they aren't matters of personal preference, like things like "there's no permadeath!!!" or other such nonsense. Then someone will take you seriously. You say you were in closed beta, you must have some hard, empirical reasons for your opinion.-
It isn't made by blizzard....geez. Thereore whats missing: Blizzard, what needs to be improved...the developer need to be bought by blizzard, what isn't ready for realese? blizzard...
P.S. you don't ask the same question you ask the same questionS o snap.
Just kidding tho (incase you didn't notice) I left the MMO world a little while after playing wow, I do think MMOs are cheaper than say, buy the ammount of games I buy, but I like having many different experiences even if some are abit worse than i hoped *cough* Too Human *cough*

I dont understand why they wont let their graphics engine be in full swing client side. That just says something about the readiness of it. Hopefully they let the graphics portion of the client be fully adjustable in the open beta, otherwise come release they're going to have a shit pile (more than a normal pile) of complaints with crashes and bugs, fact.
-
i think they will. what you have though is your standardized scalar engine like what source does. All they ahve is this crazy lod scaling. So that if you go from 5 people to 300 your computer doesn't shit itself, and you dont goto the forums and have a whine fest. It's an extremly smart business move.

Unfortunately vertdang, those that only got to try the preview weekend 'thrill' do not know what we closed beta testers have tested over and over.
The problem is a matter of sight. The weekend preview players are shortsighted and are quickly lured in by the fun of PQs and the newbie zones. In all seriousness, if a game doesn't draw a player in in the first 10 minutes of the game, it's probably not worth playing so I can't blame everyone for thinking this game is great. But again, it's shortsighted.
We closed beta players know how far the tunnel goes and what needed to be fixed. But, whatever, they'll realize it soon enough. That's what everyone did with AoC.-
some of us closed beta testers have seen the vast improvements from the time the beta shut off to the time the preview weekend turned on. Thats why some of us are very very impressed by what mythic is doing. plus we have paid close attention to how mark and jeff and josh and all of them ahve been discussing the game and being up front with what they are working on.
To even use the name aoc in the same sentance is silly. Aoc was amazing for half the ganme and then got totally broken end game and content wise. This game has none of those issues. The content is definatly there from 1-40 completly. There are end game systems in place. I have experianced them and if your in closed beta so have you. Aoc didnt have any of it working. You couldnt siege what so ever in aoc it was broken. You can siege at this point in this game. You can raid you can do pve dungeons. All the systems are in place and working.
So to compare a broken game end game wise to a game that works end game and just needs more tweaks to the system is silly. -
Closed beta since last Aug and it is leaps and bounds better these past couple months - tons more content that AoC still has ,
So don't try and lump in "we closed beta testers" as plenty are still doing the elder servers and there actually is in game content ready at launch which alone makes it far better than the PoS that AoC turned out to be-
Still doing? I thought they were down because I can't get in any of them since last weekend =/
I wasn't directly comparing War to AoC. I was making a reference to the illusion that people thought AoC was going to be the next awesome thing because they tried the open AoC weekend thing. Than they bought the game and realized it wasn't what they hoped. This Warhammer weekend, in my opinion, is doing the exact same thing AoC weekend did. I could be wrong but I think a lot of players will not be as thrilled as they were playing ranks 20-30 than 1-15. -

*raises hand* I was in closed beta.
I'm not saying it isn't BETTER than it was. I'm just saying it needs another month. maybe 2.
I mean, they JUST got rid of the combat lag.
don't get me wrong, I hope it's good. I hope its DAMN good. I want this to succeed so the 40k mmo gets a full head of steam.
I'm just a little worried atm.
