Chrono Trigger DS Hits Retailers on November 28, Includes New Dungeons, Arena Mode

14
Publisher Square Enix has formally announced a release date for the DS edition of its celebrated SNES RPG classic Chrono Trigger, slated for release on November 28.

In addition to new dungeons built specifically for the game's Nintendo DS appearance, Square Enix revealed that the game will include an Arena mode, which "add[s] exciting new dimensions" to the classic RPG. No further details were immediately available.

The company had previously revealed that Chrono Trigger DS would include some form of wireless multiplayer, though it is not yet clear whether the Arena mode will serve as the promised multiplayer component.

I'm a snob, I'll pass and just keep playing the various other versions of this exact same (awesome) game already out.

An actual remake next time, kthx?

normally i'd agree, but i missed out on this one countless times for various reasons, so i'm pretty excited to finally get to try it out without having to bust out old hardware.

Yeah ditto, only ever played a bit on various platforms, intending to actually get somewhere this time, and on the move! Perfect.

The portability sells it for me. I don't play my DS at home, that's what consoles are for.

There were only two versions -- the original, and one on the PlayStation, which was horribly botched thanks to load times. It was awful.

I'm very much an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of guy, but it's hard to argue against portability and new content. So I'm on board.

        I agree with Linde here.

But yeah, this is going to be great. Don't forget all the people who haven't played it yet, not everyone grew up in the SNES era. It will be a good opportunity for them.

And some of us were Sega fans at the time and never owned a Nintendo console until the N64.... or maybe that was just me? :)

Eww... what a terrible Nintendo console to start with. I had an N64 and it was my most regrettable console purchase. And I owned a Saturn.

The N64 was worth it for me just for Mario 64 and Zelda alone. Such great games. But the muddy graphics got very old very quickly... and in the life of the console I only ever owned a handful of games. Probably the worst game/console ratio out of every system I've owned (except maybe 32X)

I wouldn't even say portability is the boon so much as simply being able to play it. Most people don't have an SNES and a copy of Chrono Trigger these days, which is the only current way to play the game properly (as the PSX version is awful), so I don't take issue with leaving the graphics alone.

As long as they properly emulate the sound, I'll be satisfied.

Yes, but I'm speaking solely of *LEGAL* means of playing the game.

Well, technically the emulators are legal, its the roms that will get you in deep shit. The roms and the bios usually.

maybe this is how they will determine if there is enough demand for a true remake ... even if this game is considered a must play, it does not mean enough people will buy it vs. play it online *illegally* (lets not have the discussion if this is valid or not, but in the eyes of the publishers it is).

Its 35 bucks. Buy it and send a message you want more.

I did! Back when it came to PSX. How many messages do they really need? ><

But the PSX port was horrible! Plus, with FFIV doing well sales wise (and Squenix creatively bankrupt), maybe we can hope on a real remake, or at least a sequel! *

          * Don't even mention Chrono Cross. That was a horrible rape of the greatness that is Chrono Trigger.
