Instead of providing access to a select few, the beta will soon be accessible to anyone who applied, with GOG.com still accepting applications. However, beta participants may not receive a free game, as was once planned.

"We had a huge response to the site announcement and so we've had to rethink our beta plans a bit," marketing VP Tom Ohle told Shacknews. "We're not sure if we're going to be able to offer everyone in the beta a free game, but we do want to reward people for expressing their interest in GOG.com."

"So we're definitely offering everyone who's signed up early access to the site, but we have a few other details to figure out in the next couple of weeks."

The company noted that it is currently testing the payment system, with the beta expected in the "next few weeks." Ohle confirmed that the final site and its lineup--including Fallout, Fallout 2, Jagged Alliance 2, Sacrifice, Descent 1-3 and Kingpin: Life of Crime--are still slated to go live in September.
