This is really strange. It's a Sonic RPG, it's made by Bioware, the trailer is strangely bland, and it's called Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood...
Dark Brotherhood? Seems a little cliché.-

I'll be honest, I haven't played through all of KOTOR. But what I did play was pretty generic in terms of story. Even Mass Effect, while featuring a pretty great back story, used a lot of sci-fi clichés.
I find that Bioware are very good at telling relatively uninventive stories. Nothing horribly wrong with that - I really like their games - but clichés aren't really unusual for them.-
So... you've finished one Bioware game and you are about to judge all of their games by it...wow. Name one other game where an ancient race of synthetic dreadnaughts continuosly exterminate the universe's population when it reaches it's peak. Oh yeah, and the ships have mind control capabilities. Oh and also if you go through the game as a woman you can still have sex with Liara (the blue alien chick.). Just thought I'd through that in there...you know...because of the awesomeness.

Settle down, I thought Mass Effect was great. I already said I don't have a problem with what BioWare is doing. Also, ME's not the only game of theirs I've finished, I just haven't played through KOTOR.
But the whole 'galactic cycle' thing is pretty much the sci-fi equivalent of fantasy's Chosen Ones and Ancient Prophecies.
If you want examples, the Shivans from Freespace serve an identical role to the Reapers in Mass Effect. The Inhibitors in Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space books are much the same. They have differences, sure, but the concept of an ancient race of galactic 'moderators' wiping out all sentient life every time it reaches a certain stage is pretty standard fare in science fiction. It's a cool cliché, don't get me wrong, but it's still a cliché.
