Brutal Legend Not in Danger of Being Canned, Says Developer Double Fine

10
Following word that newly-formed publisher Activision Blizzard will not be picking up every Vivendi title in the company's merger transition, developer Double Fine's upcoming heavy metal action title Brutal Legend was seen as a possible casualty.

Now a fresh update to the Double Fine Action News blog has assured fans that the game is in good hands.

Mouse-over text on an image of a dead weevil posted today reads simply, "Brutal Legend is fine." No further details were provided.

Starring Jack Black as a heavy metal roadie forced to battle demons in a fantasy realm, Brutal Legend is being headed up by longtime LucasArts developer Tim Schafer. The third person action game is planned for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

a while back i had read they were developing this using some agile methodologies; does anyone know of a precedent for this involving a game of this scale?

I'm not sure how many devs out there are using agile/scrum. It seems to be making some inroads into the industry however. On the Demigod team at GPG we're actively using sprints/scrums, but I'm not familiar enough with the Brutal Legend project to know if we are on the same scale or not.

There have been a few articles in the trade mags about agile stuff. I remember one in Develop, for certain.

i've seen a few articles here and there, but i haven't come across anything that goes into great detail regarding serious and specific usage of agile on an AAA-type game.
