Wii Music Revealed, Coming This Holiday

Nintendo today announced the development of Wii Music, demonstrating the title at the company's E3 2008 press conference. The game is scheduled for release this coming holiday.

Wii Music allows multiple users to play in bands simultaneously. Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto demonstrated an in-game saxophone, holding the Wii Remote up as one would play such an instrument.

The company added that more than fifty instruments are planned for the title, including pianos, violins, electric guitars, marimbas. No additional peripherals beyond the Wii Remote are required for the game. Wii Music also appears to support up to four players for simultaneous performances.

Wii Music emphasizes a pressure-free play scheme in which there are no mistakes—playing an instrument is as simple as holding the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in the correct orientation and hitting buttons. Music and arrangements can be shared with friends and family via WiiConnect24.

"Most music games usually require you to push buttons with precise timing," said Miyamoto. "But we've designed Wii Music to allow everyone including people who can't read music or play instruments to experience the joy of music."

A drum kit was also demonstrated, which makes use of the Wii Balance Board to control bass beats and high-hat hits. Particular drums and cymbals are hit by swinging the Wii Remote while holding a corresponding button on the controller.

They should have included a mic in the wiimote so that people could sing, instead they come out with a peripheral for animal crossing that you put on top of your tv that can't be used with wii music?
