Grand Theft Auto 4 Has $500 Million First Week
Take-Two Interactive today announced that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 4 has done a whopping $500 million in sales since the game's release last week. Some 6 million copies of the game have been sold worldwide, 3.6 million of those coming in just the first day. Although the numbers exceed industry predictions, Take-Two was confident about selling six million copies before launch.
The news should help Take-Two in its efforts to thwart Electronic Arts' current takeover bid. EA's offer has been for $26 per share, while Take-Two's stock closed Tuesday at $26.35 and should go even higher on this news.

Great news. I hope EA runs away. This is only the beginning. I can't wait for Midnight Club Los Angeles to come out. It will give them even more money and there stock will go up even higher.

I doubt EA cares that much about GTA or this will put them off in any way, some figure on an financial analysts site had it that by EA taking over Take2 and eliminating the sports competition they can increase sales in their own sports division by 140 million a year.
GTA is the icing on the cake but it takes Rockstar years to make just one game (which will only increase as they push the envelope) while EA can pump out sports games every year reaping the profits.
