Killzone 2 Delayed, Now Due in February 2009
Though Sony Computer Entertainment America told Shacknews it has yet to confirm a North American release date, such major PlayStation 3 releases have been marked by near-simultaneous releases in North America and Europe.
Earlier this year, SCEE tentatively dated Killzone 2 for a September 2008 release. At the time, SCEA and developer Guerrilla both claimed that they had yet to make any announcement regarding the game's release.

Multi-platform release. Sold lots of ps3's and lots of 360's.
However, the xbox came about because of the very large following that it took from the PC demographic who were awestruck by it's first e3 debut. That and the impressive use of vehicles, co op, and NPC ai. In that regard Halo was pretty unique for it's time - particularly so for a console.
Sony doesn't really need a Halo killer. But they do need lots of good games, and a reasonable entry price. They've got one of those, they just need to work on the games side of things.

Well COD4 and GTA4 both killed Halo, even though they are multi-platform. So I don't think they need a single game to compete with Halo, they have other games which are more popular anyway.
What they need is to get some of the PC/360 exclusive titles to also come to PS3 (IE: Bioshock) as well as a few solid exclusives. MGS4 is one, GT5 is another. Hopefully Killzone 2 and Haze can even out the playing field a bit.-
But what do those games provide that hasn't already been seen in other titles? That's got to be the draw, the hook that pulls in someone that may be walking by with zero intention of purchasing said title, let alone a console.
Everything that I've seen of those titles is ho-hum, look it's trying to be halo, or HL2, or BF2. Sure the stories by be non-existent to B-movie campfests, but unless there's a chainsaw attached to a gun that cuts someone in half in a fountain of blood that splatters across your screen---oh wait, need something else since we already have that.
Cod4 had some impressive visuals, engaging gameplay - though it was incredibly repetitive, but it had some awesome, edge-of-your-seat moments.
The game just needs some real gameplay hype.

Throwing endless dollars at a bad game trying to make it good might also be a bad idea. Who knows though as it seems that after the GTAIV quake hit, everyone is pushing their shit back into the box and saying, "well um yea, just need a few more months for extra polish, cuz everyone likes polish right?!?"
As the old saying goes, you can't polish a turd.
