PlayStation Store Redesign Halts Content Updates; First Pictures of New Look Emerge (Updated)

Update: Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed that, as a result of the redesign, the North American PlayStation Store will not receive any new content or updates until April 17.

Upon its relaunch on that day, new items in the PlayStation Store will include Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, the Warhawk expansion pack Broken Mirror, and the past two week's of Rock Band tracks.

Original Story: Due to an upcoming redesign, the PlayStation 3's online PlayStation Store will not receive any new content for the next two weeks, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced.

While SCEE's announcement only applied to Europe's PlayStation Store, the global nature of the online marketplace and its redesign implies that the lack of updates will extend to all regions.

Though Sony Computer Entertainment America has yet to comment, the next two major PlayStation Store releases for North America--Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and the Warhawk expansion pack Broken Mirror--are not slated to arrive until April 17, which coincides with SCEE's timeline of the relaunch.

According to SCEE, the new layout, pictured here, features "a hugely improved navigation system, much greater scope for categorisation and a dynamic new user interface."

Despite the lack of updates, the redesign will not affect any of the previously released content, such as games and demos, which will still be available for download from the service.

sad but true. I never can muddle through the 10 rockband addons every week to find out what else was actually added.

I always get an email when new content arrives. It is 99% crap tho so I wish it would stop.

Isn't this stupid? Why stop content updates? That seems like yet another boneheaded move by Sony not understanding what the online component should do.
