PlayStation Network Possibly Hacked

Security issues with the online PC PlayStation Store may have allowed the unauthorized access of personal account information, Sony Computer Entertainment announced on the official UK and US PlayStation sites.

Located at store.playstation.com, the PC PlayStation Store allows PSP owners to purchase and download full games, as well as game demos and media. It uses the same PlayStation Network accounts as the PlayStation 3's online PlayStation Store.

While Sony was adamant that it was "very unlikely" that credit card numbers were stolen--as credit card numbers are not displayed on-screen--the company warned of changed passwords and unauthorized account activity for "a small percentage" of users.

"We have taken immediate measures to rectify this issue and system security is restored," reads the statement.

Sony claimed it would be directly contacting those possibly affected, and asked that PlayStation Network users attempt to sign in with their existing password to verify the safety of their account. Shacknews has contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America for more details.
