Uwe Boll Bows Out of Big-Budget Production
Infamous director Uwe Boll (pictured left) will return to low-budget filmmaking after his latest film, In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale brought in just $3 million in its opening weekend—just a smidge behind its $70m budget.
"In the future, I will focus on small films such as (the video game adaptation) 'Postal' or (the Vietnam war drama) 'Tunnel Rats.' These are films that represent my true passion, and they can be done with small budgets," Boll told the Hollywood Reporter.
Uwe Boll dodged financial ruin in the wake of poorly-received films like BloodRayne and House of the Dead through the use of German tax shelter funds, which have been recently banned in Germany. In The Name of the King was the last of his films to be financed in such a way, ensuring that Boll's future crimes against gaming history will be just as dependent on critical and commercial success as anything else.
