Xbox 360 Hits 17.7M Units Sold, Halo 3 Sells Over 8.1M, Mass Effect Sales Top 1.6M

The Xbox 360 has sold in excess of 17.7 million units worldwide, Microsoft revealed today in a statement that included several other sales figures.

The company also announced that Bungie's Xbox 360 exclusive Halo 3 has sold over 8.1 million copies since September 25, 2007, with BioWare's fellow Xbox 360 exclusive Mass Effect moving more than 1.6 million units after its November 20 release.

The figures follow proclamations made by Microsoft VP of corporate marketing Jeff Bell last December, in which he claimed that Halo 3 had sold in excess of 5 million units and Mass Effect sales totaled over 1 million copies.

"When we look back at 2007, we'll say this was the best holiday lineup in video game history," Bell stated at the time.

My second 360 is broken now and has to be sent to Microsoft. I tried to do the online repair form so that I dont have to deal with someone on the phone and it said there was some error and that I must call. So I'm putting it off till I give a damn. My still working PS3 will keep me entertained until then. =/

What amazes me is that they are still selling very well even with the problems. I know that not everyone knows of the issues when considering the general public, but after all this time you would think the RROD is pretty common knowledge. Is it just the fact that because of the great game library that people keep buying them regardless of the chances of getting a bad console? Or is it that they are willing to take the chance because of the warranty? Perhaps a combination of the two? Or are the general buyers just a bunch of boneheads that don't care? Heh, crazy if you really think about it.

i wonder how many jobs the RROD has created. i assume more support people have been hired in general to handle the volume of failures.

From my experience, the basic customer svc of the Xbox hotline are people here in the States, when it goes to tech support, it goes to India. The thing is, many of them aren't really technical people. They're more reading off a script. You'll find some, but most of them read of a script.

My first one that was a Apr 2006 model was a faulty one and I traded it for a Nov 2006, which I've sine given to a cousin, but since I've gotten an Elite, never had any problems with it. Anyone else with an elite have any issues?

I got mine about 6 months after launch and luckily have never had a problem, virtually all of my friends on the other hand have had theirs go bad at some point. I figure by this point mine should be ok I hope since it hasn't died yet.
