Report: Fury and BSG Developer Folding

Independent Australian developer Auran has been forced to let go much of its staff as the result of financial instability, according to a report by Angry Gamer.

The article cites an anonymous source which claims many layoffs have already taken place, with several employees seeking to migrate in the aftermath to Melbourne-based studio Tantalus.

Auran had recently released the player vs. player-focused PC MMO Fury, in addition to Battlestar Galactica (PC, XBLA), a budget title based on the hit television show. According to the source, Fury development may be continued by a Chinese studio.

"Fury was a financial disaster, it lost Auran a lot of money," said the source.

I'm convinced that almost all MMOs are "financial disasters" these days. It's not even really because of WoW's dominance, it's because the genre is completely over-saturated. Yes, this happens with almost every genre, but in the case of MMOs, an over-saturation of games that require monthly fees makes the ailment even more deadly to developers.

I've never heard of Fury before. Does anyone on the Shack play it?

I played it since release a month or so ago. It was a huge mistake and I recently quit.
