Was Extraction Point any good? The demo was ok, felt like more of the same which isn't that bad a thing I guess.

I thought it was pretty reasonable. It started strongly, introduced some slightly new environments, and had some good set-pieces in the first half.

There was a long, very boring slog through a couple more generic office buildings into a subway tunnel, then back up to a hospital (which felt like an office building) and some sort of office complex/shopping mall.

Overall, the combat was good but the pacing was a bit off, and some of the set-pieces felt a little rough around the edges. I managed to catch the AI out a couple of times, which I didn't really do in FEAR.

If Timegate have learned from the weaker aspects of Extraction Point, I think Perseus Mandate could be excellent. At its best, Extraction Point was better than FEAR, but it didn't hit those high notes often or consistently enough.

It was good. More of the same with some new environments including an insane asylum which is a fitting setting for the game. If you loved the first game it's worth getting, otherwise wait for the inevitable gold edition with all the x-packs in it.

What I would want to know is if the expansions were still scary or advanced the story at all.

Somewhat, and Yes but not much. (referring to Extraction Point)
I too thought it was more about a few more nice set combat sequences than advancing the story.
If you liked the combat in Fear it's worth picking up, for sure. If you like miniguns, too!
