GameSpy Announces PC-to-PS3 Multiplayer, Epic Notes UT3 Support Undecided
"GameSpy is committed to working together with Epic to address a broad range of needs for the connected gamer, including multiplayer matchmaking, in-game and out-of-game messaging, persistent player communities, and competition systems," said Jamie Berger of GameSpy parent IGN Entertainment.
Following the announcement, Epic Games confirmed to Shacknews that GameSpy's announcement of cross-platform play is available to licensees of both Unreal Engine 3 and GameSpy's technology, but noted Epic has not yet decided whether it will feature cross-platform multiplayer in its own Unreal Tournament 3.

What other browsers? Don't get me wrong, the last time I used a gamespy browser was for q2 i think. However, almost every EA game (fuck you EA) is married with the GS/GSA service, and EA is the largest publisher of entertainment software. There really isn't any decent alternative, and most browsers that aren't using GS services (Ubi's crap) generally suck balls with very few exceptions (id & valve come to mind).

Oh, and to keep on being the shill that I am for WiC... Massive got their shit together and made a great interface for not only finding games, but linking the server browser, buddy/clan/recently played players list, clan board and rankings in one effortless system that was way to easy to use during the beta. I hope they didn't fuck that up on release - it was almost perfect.

I use Qtracker and like it. Can need a bit of work for filters and such if they aren't built in, but there's usually someone on the forums who's made an installer for them anyways.
I don't have the fastest download rate, so I pretty much require a game browser that allows me to limit the number of pings, etc or I'll have no clue what my ping in game actually is. The BF2 in-game browser is useless for me because of this.

Yep, but even the back-end is a pile of crap. It goes down for days on end, BF2's stats being off for months is one good example. RTS games that use it regularly drop games. Its cheap and cheerful, which is why publishers force it on developers. THQ and a few others have finally gotten the message though, and are creating their own back-ends (or using another provider) to avoid the "Gamespy effect" of bad PR.
Remember back when BF1942 was released and they were blocking access to the master servers from any external server browser that wasnt one of their own? Nice guys at Gamespy....
