Customizable Wii Scrolling Shooter in the Works (Updated)

3
Publisher Majesco Games and developer Budcat Games have announced Blast Works: Build, Fuse & Destroy, a Wii sidescrolling shooter focused on customization and user-created content. By absorbing pieces of destroyed enemy craft, players can boost gameplay components such as ship size and defenses during Blast Works' fifteen-plus land, air, and sea missions. Once back at the in-game hanger, players can further customize weapons, propulsion systemse, and armor, with the option to create custom player and enemy ships as well as game levels.

"Gamers can literally build their own shooter experience via Blast Works' easy-to-use, multiple in-game editors," said Majesco Europe marketing manager John Merchant. "This exceptional customisation combined with the unique 'stickiness' of enemy debris and bright geometric graphics delivers a standout game that never plays the same way twice."

In addition to its customization options, Blast Works features two-player cooperative and defensive sections, which, according to today's announcement, requires players to use the Wii Remote "like an anti-aircraft turret."

Previously, developer Budcat Games has been responsible for a number of titles across a variety of platforms, including Nacho Libre (NDS), the Wii edition of EA's Medal of Honor: Vanguard, and the PlayStation 2 version of Double Fine's Psychonauts.

Blast Works: Build, Fuse & Destroy is slated to hit North America this fall, with a European release in Q1 2008.

Update: Shacker kemical points out that Blast Works is based on Kenta Cho's free PC shooter TUMIKI Fighters. More information on TUMIKI Fighters, including screenshots as well as the game itself, can be found at the title's official site.

Sidescrolling is good, seeing media eventually would be better, as otherwise this sounded a bit too much like the Kingdom Hearts rail-shooter minigame for comfort.
