World in Conflict Confirmed for Xbox 360

Vivendi Games publishing label Sierra Entertainment has now officially announced that Massive Entertainment's real-time strategy game World in Conflict is in development for Xbox 360. Today's announcement follows confirmation last week that further details on the console game would be coming soon.

UK-based Swordfish Studios, acquired by Vivendi in 2005, will be translating the game to Microsoft's home console platform with the supervision of Swedish developer Massive. According to Vivendi, the game will feature a redesigned HUD and controller-optimized gameplay to ensure the game feels at home on a console. It will support 16-player online battles. Sierra sent along several Xbox 360 screenshots.

"World in Conflict is the natural fit for Xbox 360, as it effectively blurs the lines between strategy, action and first-person-shooter, making controlling units and issuing orders quick and easy on the console controller," said Sierra global marketing VP Al Simone. "Fans of action games and strategy fanatics alike will find that World in ConflictÂ’s unique gameplay and advanced multiplayer combat will provide a fresh game experience not yet available on consoles."

World in Conflict is due for Xbox 360 this fall. Its PC counterpart is scheduled to ship in September. For more on the game, check out our preview and interview and our multiplayer preview.

Breckon's preview of this game piqued my interest, but I could have so easily passed over this game entirely: they would have struggled if they'd wanted to come up with a more generic-sounding title.
