World of Darkness MMO: Maybe in 2011

When EVE Online developer CCP merged with pen and paper roleplaying developer White Wolf last November, CCP announced that it had already begun work on an MMO based off White Wolf's World of Darkness property. Now CCP marketing director Magnus Bergsson has shed some more light on the project, suggesting the game is at least four years from release.

"We're not really hiding any information about [the release date], we just don't know yet," Bergsson told Eurogamer. "The actual design and exactly how it's going to be is being created right now, so when we actually know all of that we can guestimate how long it's going to take. These games typically take four to five years to make. I don't think this is going to be any different."

CCP's in-development MMO is far from the first game to be based off White Wolf's World of Darkness, a phrase which encompasses the overlying setting of White Wolf's multiple pen and paper roleplaying games. Past video games set in the World of Darkness include Nihilistic's RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption (PC) and Troika's first person RPG Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (PC, pictured left), as well as High Voltage Software's action RPGs Hunter: The Reckoning (Xbox, GCN), Hunter: The Reckoning - Wayward (PS2) and Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer (Xbox).
