Developer SayDesign and publisher Codemasters are working on a PC title based off the Lionsgate's Oscar-winning 1987 film Dirty Dancing. Starring Patrick Swayze (right) and Jennifer Grey (left), a special edition of the movie was recently released on DVD and Blu-ray, alongside a limited theatrical run, in commemoration of the film's 20th anniversary.

Described by today's announcement as a "premium action puzzler casual game," Dirty Dancing - The Video Game is slated for a late 2007 release. The official site promises "a fantastic variety of fun mini-games" set at the fictional Kellerman's Mountain House Resort, with players earning "camp dollars to purchase Dirty Dancing memorabilia, cabin furnishings, and the all-important dance lessons with Johnny and Penny."

"Dirty Dancing delivers compelling subject matter that has all the tools to become an instant hit online," explained Lionsgate executive vice president of marketing Anne Parducci. "For two decades, girls and women have identified with [Jennifer Grey's character] Baby, and through this wonderful game from Codemasters, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in her world like never before."

"Dirty Dancing is one of the most beloved movies of all time with millions of dedicated fans across the world!," declared Codemasters online gaming VP and general manager David Solari. "Dirty Dancing - The Video Game will make the perfect Christmas present for fans of the movie, and we are thrilled to be able to bring this much loved film to the video game world!"

Dirty Dancing - The Video Game developer SayDesign is credited with numerous games based off original and licensed properties, including Solitaire Pop, MTV Obsessed: The Game, Nicktoons Challenge!, March of the Penguins: Save the Egg and Hollie Hobbie & Friends Beanbag Toss. Many of the company's past efforts have been produced using Flash or Shockwave.
