Activision Grabs Guitar Hero

12
Activision today announced that it will be acquiring music-oriented video game publisher RedOctane, which publishes and owns the IP of Harmonix Music Systems' acclaimed Guitar Hero (PS2). Guitar Hero was one of the best-reviewed games of last year, appealing to a surprisingly broad variety of audiences.
Under the terms of the agreement, RedOctane will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision and the company's management team and key employees will sign long-term employment contracts with Activision. RedOctane will continue to be based in Sunnyvale, CA. The transaction is expected to close during the current fiscal quarter. The closing of the transaction is subject to various specific and general closing conditions.

Developer Harmonix is currently working on Guitar Hero II (PS2), which is playable this week during E3 on the show floor..

Interesting, maybe this will allow red octane to have a stockpile of cash for songs? Also I hope someone can report on what songs people are playing on the e3 floor.

Exactamundo. Guitar Hero's selection was pretty impressive itself, but there are so many songs I want to rock out too. Mainly November Rain.

I played a round of GH2 on the E3 floor. I played Bass on War Pigs from Black Sabbath, then a couple of my co-workers played The Van Halen version of "You Really Got Me Now", one on bass, the other on lead guitar.

This game is going to be so awesome, I want it now so bad :<
