Neverwinter Nights 2 Announced

22

From IGN comes the news that Neverwinter Nights 2 is in development. Already working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Obsidian Entertainment will be the developer of this RPG sequel as well. The game is scheduled for a 2006 release.

BioWare will still be involved, however. The company will offer assets from the original Neverwinter Nights, as well as offer suggestions and oversight of the sequel's general design and development. "From our development of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights to our engine licensure on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, we've been working collaboratively with Feargus [Urquhart] and other members of the Obsidian Entertainment team for years," said Dr. Greg Zeschuk, BioWare's Joint CEO.

Please let it be more like Baldurs Gate with a party and actual interaction between them.

They create products like that (they are called Baldur's Gate).

Why not allow them to create a product line with another purpose?

Agreed - NWN was meant to be similar to a PnP experience where there's 1 player character per player. That doesn't translate to a great singleplayer experience but it's great playing official and user-made modules with other people, especially with a DM running things.

Why? The goal of NWN was always (at least, IMO) to create a decent campaign to go along with an awesome toolset. The entire focus of the game was multiplayer.

You don't need parties when you've got friends to play with, and you don't need in-depth campaigns when the community makes significantly better ones.

I agree. NWN was let down coming off of BG.
