Last year, Metal Gear developer Hideo Kojima split with Konami over creative differences. Because of the split, Kojima didn't have the chance to accept The Game Award for Best Action/Adventure Game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain won last year.

In recognition of Hideo Kojima's influence and work in the video gaming industry, The Game Awards are presenting him with the Industry Icon award. Since the split with Konami, Kojima has formed a new studio, Kojima Productions, which is currently working on a new title starring Norman Reedus, Death Stranding.
